Three Confess to Belle West Murder as Police Hunt for Fourth Suspect

In a shocking development, three men—including a businessman and two fishermen—have admitted to their involvement in the murder of 56-year-old Parbhudai Boodhram, whose body was discovered at her Belle West, West Bank Demerara home. The crime, initially believed to be a robbery, has exposed deeper concerns about violent crime in Guyana as police continue their search for a fourth suspect.

Routine Errands Turn Deadly

Boodhram, affectionately known as “Renie,” lived with her husband, 63-year-old tailor Anthony Alphonso Boodhram, who ran a shop in Georgetown. She frequently traveled between their home and her husband’s business to assist him before returning home. On the morning of her death, she followed her usual routine—leaving for Georgetown, working at the shop, and later heading back to Belle West.

Before reaching home, she made a brief stop at a neighborhood store owned by 40-year-old businessman Rohan Singh, also known as “Alpha.” Singh, someone she reportedly trusted and treated like a son, escorted her home after she finished shopping.

What should have been an uneventful evening took a grim turn. Instead of ensuring her safety, Singh allegedly played a role in facilitating the fatal attack that followed.

Confessions Reveal Disturbing Details

Initially, Singh told investigators that he saw Boodhram enter her yard before driving away. However, as the investigation progressed, inconsistencies in his story emerged. Under pressure, Singh admitted that two fishermen—29-year-old Kishan Narine, known as “Sparka,” and Philbert Cush, called “Samuel”—followed Boodhram into her home, where they carried out the attack.

The motive, according to police, was robbery. The men restrained Boodhram and stole her purse, jewelry, and approximately US$4,000 in cash. However, during the crime, she reportedly collapsed and died. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that she had been strangled and suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that the three suspects provided detailed confessions about their involvement, but authorities believe at least one more person was part of the crime. Despite multiple searches, the fourth suspect remains at large.

The Growing Threat of Violent Crime in Guyana

The murder of Parbhudai Boodhram underscores a troubling reality—violent crime remains a persistent issue in Guyana. While law enforcement continues to make efforts to curb criminal activity, incidents involving home invasions, robberies, and murders continue to unsettle communities.

Guyana’s gold mining and resource-driven economy have contributed to fluctuating crime rates, particularly in interior regions where law enforcement presence is limited. In urban and semi-urban areas, violent crimes related to robberies and personal disputes remain a challenge. While the government has invested in crime-fighting initiatives, cases like Boodhram’s serve as a stark reminder that criminal networks continue to operate with a level of boldness.

As authorities work to track down the final suspect in this case, the community of Belle West remains shaken, mourning the loss of a woman who was well-known and respected. Residents are left wondering how someone she trusted could have played a role in her tragic death.

The search for justice continues.
